Acute Assessments Unit (AAU)

AAU

AAU is an Acute Assessment Unit that sees patients from 16 to 116! Patients may be with us for one hour or several days, and will either be transfered to a Ward or discharged home.

AAU is located in Zone D of the New Building.

 

 

Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit (ARU)

The ARU provides a service of care for General & Old Age Medicine on an Outpatient basis.

We aim to give personal attendtion in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, this being provided by a multidisciplinary team of experienced staff in a purpose built unit.

 

    

Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)

The Cardiology Unit consists of two wards with a total of 40 beds, incorporating a six- bed chest pain assessment unit and an eight-bed Coronary Care Unit. The department addresses investigative, acute and rehabilitation phases of cardiac disease.

The Children’s Centre is a purpose built unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital situated next to the Orchard Car Park in the new section of the hospital and provides both inpatient and out patient care.

The Day Surgery Unit caters for the any patients who can now come into hospital, have their operation and go home the same day.

We aim to provide a personal and efficient service in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere within a purpose built unit.

  

Department of Critical Care (DCC)

The Department of Critical Care (DCC) at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital is located on the 1st floor of the Tower Block. It looks after patients who need more care than can be given on general wards (High Dependency and Intensive Care).

DCC has ten beds, including four single rooms to help to control infection.

The Endoscopy Unit s a friendly 9 bedded specialist unit providing a service to the population of Gloucestershire and beyond. The Endoscopy Unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital can be found on the first floor above the main entrance to the hospital. We are essentially a day time unit and are open between 0730 hrs and 1830 hrs Monday to Friday but provide emergency out of hours cover as needed. We pride ourselves on providing a service that is timely, informative, efficient and friendly. Our aim is to provide the very highest standards of care to patients and relatives alike ensuring privacy and dignity are maintained at all times.

Ward 2A

Female patient with arm in plasterWe look after patients under the care of 10 Orthopaedic Consultants and 2 Specialist Registrars. The nursing team is headed by Modern Matron Jill Keates, who is supported by a Senior Sister Jo Hayes, Sister Stinchcombe, Charge Nurse Terry Carter, several Staff Nurses, Health Care Assistants and a Ward Clerk. The nurses work in teams concentrating in the delivery of care to the patients in their group. 

 

Ward 2B

Nurse checking ear in ENT UnitWard 2B is a surgical ward specialising in ENT, oral & maxillofacial & orthodontic surgery. It is also the regional unit for head & neck oncology. It is located on the 2nd floor of the Tower Block. The ward manager is responsible for the daily running of the ward, supported by a team of registered nurses & healthcare assisstants.

 

 

Ward 3A

Ward 3A is a Trauma and Orthopaedic ward.

We treat patients with a number of different conditions ranging from life and limb saving surgery, joint replacement, broken bones and keyhole surgery for sports injuries.

 

 

Ward 3B

Ward 3B is an elective Orthopaedic ward. This means we have patients who are undergoing routine Orthopaedic surgery comprising mainly of hip replacements, knee replacements and spinal surgery. We also undertake other joint surgery to the body.

Ward 4B GOAM

Male patients exercising after surgeryWard 4B GOAM is a ward for male General & Old Age Medicine pateints with a focus on assessment and rehabilitation. The Ward Manager is Sue Merrett who is supported by Sister Maggie Harris and a nursing team. The ward has 28 beds and to concentrate on the delivery of care the nurses are divided into 2 teams. Our aim is to deliver a high standard of care in a safe environment for patients and staff where dignity and confidentiality is maintained.

 

 

Ward 5A

Ward 5A is an 24-bedded general surgical ward specialising in upper gastro-intestinal surgery. We are a mixed sex ward divided into single sexed bays and side rooms. Although the ward is very busy, the atmosphere is friendly. Our aim is to deliver a high standard of care in a safe enviroment for patients and staff, where dignity and confidentiality is maintained.

 

 

Ward 5B

Male patient with nurseWard 5B is a 29 bedded colorectal surgical and general surgical ward.

The ward is managed by the Senior Sister Catherine Murray. The Junior Sister is Nettie Evans. There are three teams, each of which is headed by a Principal Nurse who will help to plan care and your discharge, in her absence a supporting nurse from the team will do this.

 

Ward 6A

Neck injury patientWard (6A) is a Medical Ward which specialises in Neurology.

The ward is lead by a Modern Matron, 1 Ward Manager and is supported by a nursing team comprising of Ward Sisters/Charge Nurse, Staff Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Student Nurses. They all work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Although it is a very busy ward we aim to give high standards of care in a friendly and relaxed environment.

 

Ward 6B (Stroke Unit)

The Stroke Unit is a 29 bed unit dedicated to the acute care and continuing rehabilitation for all adults regardless of age who have had a suspected stroke. The unit consists of 2 six bedded Acute Stroke Bays with one bed identified to take emergency thrombolysis patients and 17 stroke rehabilitation beds.

The ward is lead by a Senior Sister and is supported by three nursing teams. The nurses work in teams in order to concentrate on the delivery of care to the patients in their group.

Ward 7B - Renal Unit is a 23 bedded, mixed sex ward specialising in both Rheumatology and acute and chronic Renal Medicine. Our unit philosophy is to provide quality for our patients with the highest standards of individualised care. We uphold standards to provide privacy, maintain dignity and confidentiality whist respecting patients wishes at all times by working collaboratively with patients and relatives in planning and evaluating patients complex needs.

Ward 8B

Nurse with female patient in oxygen maskWard 8B is 29 bedded acute Respiratory Medical Ward based on the 8th floor within the Tower block at Gloucester Royal Hospital which comprises of 5 siderooms and 4 bays containing 6 beds. Flowers are not permitted on 8B as they are an irritant and cause allergic reactions with some of the patient’s who are receiving treatment for their respiratory disease.

The Ward Manager is Sister Teresa Clift who is supported by 2 other sisters, Sister Lorraine Cooke and CN Jerome Ibarr and a nursing team. The ward has 28 beds and to concentrate on the delivery of care the nurses are divided into 2 teams. Our aim is to deliver a high standard of care in a safe environment for patients and staff where dignity and confidentiality is maintained.
