Emergency Trauma: 999 Emergency

Ben King, Lead for Acute Care Response, Resuscitation and Clinical Skills (pictured) and Jo Cornes, Consultant Anaesthetist and Anaesthetic Lead for Clinical Simulation.
Traumatic injuries threatening life and limb require fast, skilled action by a team of experts.
Our resuscitation team scan the heart, body, brain and bones and prioritise what must be done, in quick succession, to save the person before them.
On entering our patient Trauma Patient Simulation Suite you will experience a real trauma, with the patient simulator and get a close up view of what happens behind the scenes in our Emergency Departments.
When the ‘patient’ is stable it will be your turn to become part of the team and use an intraosseous (into the bone) drill; keep the airways open; carry out a rapid blood transfusion and use a portable cardiac echo to diagnose life threatening emergencies.
You will meet our experts from the Emergency Department, and Critical Care Department nurses and anaesthetists who calmly deal with not-quite-everyday traumas using their extraordinary skills.
