AMD And Anti VEGF Drugs

In early 2009, the Trust was running 2 clinics assessing and treating about 60 patients each week. The demand for anti-VEGF drugs for AMD has increased in the last 2 years and in 2011, we now operate 3 clinics treating a total of 135 patients every week.
Working practices have been adapted to support the changes. The anti-VEGF clinics have a separate co-ordinator and use multi-disciplinary teams of optometrists, nurses, nurse practitioners and doctors to provide a one-stop service.
We anticipate further increases in demand if routine funding becomes available for the use of anti-VEGF drugs in treating other conditions.
