Countess of Wessex Opens Women's Centre

HRH Wessex

On Wednesday 25th May 2011 at 1.15pm, Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex officially opened the Women’s Centre at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

The Women’s Centre has been operational since January with facilities designed to help women with a broad range of care needs. As well as a delivery suite and outpatient facilities, the new centre also features a midwifery-led birth unit and state-of-the-art neonatal unit.

Dhushy Mahendran, chief of service for women's and children's service at the hospitals trust welcomed the royal visit.

He said: "It's a great end to what has been a long project.

"It has been a complex project but we have achieved our final aim very successfully and to mark it with a royal visitor to officially open the unit is fantastic. We are finding our feet, we have been here five months and things are working very well indeed. We have got very, very good feedback from our patients and families."

The centre has seen more than 2,000 births since it opened its doors for the first time in January.
