Statement: Compensation payments
Compensation payments are made by the NHS Litigation Authority to which all NHS trusts and organisations pay premiums on an annual basis.
Caroline Pennels, Head of Legal Services for the Trust, said: “The Trust is committed to providing a high quality of care for all its patients. Where this standard of care does not meet expectations, the Trust investigates and where necessary implements new policies and procedures to ensure any errors are not repeated.
“Compensation settlements can take several years to conclude, depending on the claim and can range from several hundred to several million pounds.
“It is also important to remember that the figures quoted will include many claims, a number of which will be several years old, and not just those which have been brought against the Trust in the financial years stated.”
