Trust serves up success at royal reception

15.12.11

The Trust was congratulated for the excellent work they have done to improve the quality of food in their hospitals at a reception on Thursday 15th December. The Soil Association event was hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales at Clarence House in London.

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have managed to source more than 30% of their food locally (within 25 miles) with no overall increase in cost, keeping the Trust within their current budget of £3 per adult patient per day.  A further 30% of food is sourced from within 50 miles of the hospitals.

The event was attended by fourteen of the UK’s highest achieving hospitals with several representatives from each hospital attending.

Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Evelyn Barker said:

“We were pleased to be invited to such a prestigious reception and delighted that our efforts to improve hospital food have been recognised.

“Not only is this good news for patients, it’s also great for local farmers and benefits the local economy as well as reducing our carbon footprint by reducing the number of food miles.”
