Volunteers' Reception and Awards

19th October 2011

Some 180 Volunteers from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital will be meeting for an Annual Reception on Thursday 27th October at 11.30am at the Kings School, Gloucester.  Attendees will include Members of the Department of Spiritual Care and representatives from The Friends of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH).

The awards will be presented by Trust Chair, Professor Clair Chilvers DSc and attended by Dr Frank Harsent and other members of the executive committee. Following a luncheon, Professor Chilvers will present medals to some 36 volunteers, for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of service and who have totalled up in excess of 395 years of service between them.

The event is the highlight of the volunteers’ calendar where members of the Trust Board have the opportunity to thank and celebrate their success and show appreciation for the time, dedication and commitment they give to the Trust.

The event also offers volunteers quality time to meet together socially and share each others company whilst served with a luncheon presented by members of the catering staff of the King’s School, Gloucester.

The volunteers from the combined services of Hospital Volunteers and the department of Spiritual Care at GRH give more than 1,200 hours of their time every week.  The service given by these volunteers across 50 departments and wards continues to thrive, and has enormous benefits for our patient and visitor experience.

Gay Limbrick, Voluntary Services Manager said “Despite challenging times in the NHS, our volunteers happily move on and readjust to the current need of the ever-changing voluntary role. We all look forward to what we hope will be a happy occasion.”
