Visiting Restrictions Update

July 2011

Norovirus is still widespread in the local community but currently Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals are not affected. To  protect vulnerable patients, the Trust is still asking members of the public to follow advice about visiting.

The infection is often introduced into hospital by patients requiring admission and can also be introduced by visiting family and friends. It can have relatively mild symptoms and is usually over within 48 hours, but is highly infectious.

Cheltenham General Hospital has no visiting restrictions at this time.

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital has no visiting restrictions at this time.

Any visitor who has, or has had any symptoms of sickness, diarrhoea or flu-like symptoms is asked not to visit for at least 48 hours after symptoms have ended.

We would like to remind visitors that access restrictions are reviewed on a daily basis but may be put in place with the aim of protecting vulnerable patients.

Advice on how to cope with diarrhoea and vomiting symptoms is available through NHS Direct’s online health and symptom checkers at www.nhs.uk/nhsdirect. NHS Direct can also be contacted on 0845 46 47.
