- Includes Staphylococci, Streptococci, Enterococci, Corynebacteria, Clostridia and Listeria
Main clinical infections:
- Staphylococci and the ß haemolytic streptococci commonly produce skin and wound infections.
- Staphylococci, Enterococci and Corynebacteria produce line related infections.
- Clostridia can be part of the polymicrobial mixture in abdominal and gangrenous wound infections.
Usually sensitive to:
- Vancomycin
- Teicoplanin
- Gentamicin is active against many Staphylococci, but not Streptococci or Enterococci.
- Cephalosporins (except Listeria and Enterococci)
Usually resistant to:
- Metronidazole (except Clostridia)
