- Gram-negative bacillus, one of the coliform group.
- May become antibiotic resistant, when cross infection may be a problem.
Main clinical infections:
- Hospital acquired pneumonia
- Ventilator-associated pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
Usually sensitive to
- Cephalosporins
- Gentamicin
- Ciprofloxacin
- Piptazobactam (Tazocin)
- Carbapenems (imipenem / meropenem)
