Dr Farrugia underwent specialist training in Medical Oncology at Guy's and St Thomas’ Hospitals and St Bartholomew's Hospital in London.  His Ph.D. thesis which he read at the Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden Hospital London, focused on the pharmacology of the thymidylate synthase inhibitor raltidrexed.  In 2000 was appointed as the first Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Gloucestershire Oncology Centre in Cheltenham.  His areas of specialization include Lung cancer and mesothelioma, colorectal cancer, melanoma, kidney cancer, neuroendocrine tumours and Cancer of Unknown Primary.  

 

He is currently 3 Counties Research Network Clinical Lead following his appointment in April 2010.
