Dr Smith has an all round knowledge and experience in the management of rheumatic diseases. She worked as a general physician and rheumatologist in the Australian outback for a year.

She also carries out clinical research with her current project examining serum cytokine profiles in rheumatoid arthritis (linked with the Academic Rheumatology Department at Bristol University).

Dr Smith works as a medical volunteer on a regular basis.  Examples of this include her attachment with Asha for which she carries out clinics amongst the slum dwellings in Delhi, India, and she is a tutor for PRIME ; recent trips to Palestine and Bosnia.

Dr Smith has an area of specialist interest and expertise in the management of Infectious Diseases and Musculoskeletal Disorders.  She is one of the panel who review articles surrounding these 2 topics for the journal ‘Clinical Rheumatology’.
