Psychology

Dermatology psychology is based at Gloucester Royal Hospital and run by one clinical psychologist at 0.18 whole time equivalent.

 

The aim of the service is to provide specialist psychological support to people attending outpatients who:

 

  • Are having difficulty coping with their skin condition e.g. mood problems, insomnia, limited by concerns about their appearance.
  • Find that stress or other psychological issues exacerbate their skin problem.
  • Want to reduce scratching or self harm in form of picking.
  • Have difficulty accepting their skin condition.

 

The dermatology psychology service provides individual and group-based interventions, supervision and consultancy. It works closely with the dermatology department and has close links with the pain management team.
