Scabies

We suggest that all patients use Permethrin (Lyclear dermal cream) because of the emergence of resistance to other treatments.

Usually a single application is sufficient, but for severe cases, a second application a week later may be indicated.

Hints for Diagnosis

In any itchy patient with a rash, think of scabies. Look for tracks

Ask for a history of contacts with itchy rashes.

Look between the fingers, wrists, angles and feet for burrows. The soles of the feet are a common site for scabies in children/infants.

Check the nipples, or penis and scrotum, for nodules – almost diagnostic of scabies.
