Verruca Pedis
Current evidence suggests that no one treatment is effective for Verruca Pedis. Advise patient/parent to cover the wart with a plaster for the first three weeks to prevent further infection/spread of the wart. Normally the patient/parent should be advised that the patient/child will develop immunity to the virus and eventually the wart will disappear naturally.
Referral to Podiatry (only if verruca is painful) for advice on footwear, padding etc. If patient/parent is insistent on active treatment then encourage home treatment with OTC remedies that contain salicylic acid ( eg. occlusal, salactol, bazooka). These should be applied regularly and combined with vigorous paring.
Antiviral homeopathic remedies such as Thuja and extract of Marigold have been shown in clinical studies to be variably effective and need to be applied twice daily for up to 12 weeks.
