Children's Outpatients
Welcome to the Childrens Outpatient Departments. There are two departments, one at Cheltenham General located on the 1st floor of College Road wing and the other at Gloucestershire Royal located on the first floor within the Children's Centre.
We are a team of nursing staff, reception staff and play specialists. Our aim is to work in partnership with children and their families to provide a high standard of care by ensuring clinics run effectively thus providing a suitable environment. Appointments
Our opening hours are 8.45am - 5pm.
Once your child’s referrer (maybe you’re GP, Emergency Department doctor or Ward Doctor) has completed an assessment then a referral can be made. There are two options:
- Choose and Book appointment – this is where you can book an appointment choosing a date and time suitable for you. This option is only available through your GP.
- Direct referral- once we receive your child’s referral we will send you a letter by post with the next available appointment. This option can be used for all types of referral.
If you need to cancel/rearrange your child’s appointment, please ring us immediately. This will enable us to rearrange your child’s appointment and give your original appointment to someone else.
Waiting times
We will do our best to see you and your child on time, although delays are sometimes unavoidable. We will keep you informed of any delays by writing on the white board and informing you on arrival.
When you arrive
It is important that you arrive on time. Please ring us if you feel you will be late. On arrival, the receptionist will book your child in. Please let us know any changes in your child’s personal details – for example change of address.
Clinics are busy and seating in the waiting area is limited, therefore we request only parents / carers and siblings attend with the child.
During your child's consultation
The nurse will carry out some tests prior to your child being seen – height, weight, blood pressure and sometimes a urine test.
You and your child may see either your consultant or another doctor working in the same team.
Further help and advice
If you are unhappy about any aspects of your child’s clinic experience, please speak to the clinic nurse in charge who will try to resolve matters for you there and then.
Wheelchair access – the department is suitable for wheelchairs. Disabled toilets are available.
