The Play Team provides normal everyday play and specialist play preparation for children and young people on the wards and within clinics.

Hospitals can be a daunting place for children and young people. Play allows children and young people to deal with their fears, worries about hospital, illness and treatment.

 

Our service

We have an experienced team of hospital Play Specialist and Assistants and our service provides the following:

• Preparation and distraction for procedures and treatment
• Create a supportive environment for children and young people and their family within hospital
• Support and help the child or young person to recognise and form their own coping strategies. This is especially important with children / young people with chronic conditions who will have frequent hospital attendances, treatments and tests during their time with us
• Create and organise a range of recreational activities bringing fun into a stressful environment.

We work from 8am until 6pm, Monday  to Friday and 9am - 5pm at weekends.

We are located in the playroom within the Children's Centre.
