Palliative Care Services

The Specialist Palliative Care Teams offer specialist care to people affected by potentially life threatening illness, their families, friends and carers from initial diagnosis, through active treatment and during the palliative phase.

Inpatient Services

Cheltenham General Hospital & Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

Patients will be seen on the wards Monday to Friday within 48 hours from receipt of medical referral and according to needs. 

An out-of-hours advice line is available to healthcare professionals outside of normal working hours.

Outpatient Services

The department provides the following outpatient services:

  • General Palliative Medicine Service

There are three palliative care consultants who lead a team of specialist doctors and nurses. As a patient you may be seen by the clinician or by a doctor or nurse within his/her team. The clinician has overall responsibilty for your care.

Cheltenham General Hospital

Led by Dr Cath Blinman - Outpatient Clinics take place in West Block Outpatients and Cotswold Care Hospice, Minchinhampton on a weekly basis.

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

Led by Dr Emma Husbands - Outpatient Clinics take place in Beacon House at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital weekly and Great Oaks Day Hospice in the Forest of Dean on a monthly basis.

Sue Ryder Care Leckhampton Court

Led by Dr Paul Perkins - Outpatient Clinics take place at Sue Ryder as required.

Home Visits

Consultant domiciliary visits can be arranged if appropriate.

Community Palliatiive Care Nurses (Macmillan) visit patients in their home from referral.
