Environment and Sustainability is part of the remit of the Estates and Facilities Division.  However, the sustainable impact of the Trust's activities is the responsibility of all departments and staff within the organisation.

 

The Earth's climate is changing. Rising temperatures will bring about changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather. This will have a profound effect on health and the services the NHS provides.

 

Making a Difference

We all have a role to play and the power to make a difference to avoid making the problem worse, so cutting carbon emissions is a priority.

 

Working through the "Sustainability Committee" the Trust has responded to the challenge by developing a Carbon Management Plan that sets the ambitious target of reducing its emissions by 20% by 2015.

Carbon Footprint

The Estates and Facilities Division are responsible for calculating the Trust’s carbon footprint and for reporting on progress with the reduction of carbon.  Many carbon reduction schemes are linked to reducing energy consumption and that means improvements in the efficiency of everything from lights to boiler house controls and in the design of new buildings.

 

Sustainability

The Estates and Facilities Division also contribute to sustainability by looking at waste minimisation and increased recycling.  Our sustainable procurement e.g. buying food from local producers, and ensuring materials come from sustainable sources e.g. wood from Forest Stewardship Council certified suppliers, also contribute to the Trust’s responsibilities for environment and sustainability.
