Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC)
Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC)
The Trust is a participant in the CRC. The scheme is a mandatory energy efficiency scheme for the UK that aims to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Participant organisations must monitor and report their energy use and then purchase allowances for each tonne of CO2 they produce within the scheme. The initial year of the scheme was from April 2010 to March 2011 and only required participants to submit their emissions data. From April 2011 organisations must purchase allowances to cover their emissions and for the year April 2011 to March 2012 allowances will cost £12 each.
Carbon Emissions 2011-2012
In July 2012 a submission was made which declared the Trust carbon emissions from energy use (gas, electricty and fuel oil) from April 2011 to March 2012.
The total direct CRC emissions = 20,056 tonnes of CO2.
The Trust is required to purchase allowances to cover these emissions and this will cost £240,672.
Carbon Emissions 2010-2011
In July 2011 a submission was made which declared the Trust carbon emissions from energy use (gas, electricity and fuel oil) from April 2010 to March 2011.
The total direct CRC emissions = 20,867 tonnes of CO2.
In addition there were an additional 4,560 tonnes of CO2 associated with the Energy Centres. These emissions were reported by the private contractor which runs the Energy Centres on behalf of the Trust.
CRC Performance League Table 2010-2011
In November 2011 the CRC Performance League table was published. This ranked all 2,000 participants and for the first year was based purely on the two ‘early action metrics’ with each metric worth 50% of the total score.
Early Action Metric 1 = holding the Carbon Trust Standard. To achieve this an organisation should demonstrate good carbon management and must show absolute carbon emission reductions over several years. The Trust does not hold this standard.
Early Action Metric 2 = voluntarily installing additional automatic meter readers (AMR). All of the relevant Trust meters are already AMR. Under the scheme rules organisations in this situation could only score half of the points available for this section.
GHNHSFT was ranked joint 782 with a weighted score of 1276.50
This was the maximum score we could achieve.
For future years the league table will also take into account the actual carbon emissions from the organisation and will factor in a metric for business growth. Position in the league table does not affect the overall cost of carbon emissions.
