Roughly half of respondents had done the Challenge before.

Most people who did not complete the Challenge last year said this was due to a lack of time. Other reasons included the pace in which they received the books, reading other books at the same time, and not liking the particular books they received.

Some figures from the survey:

• 78% of respondents did the Challenge last year  to widen their reading horizons, and 41% of respondents did it to gain a sense of achievement
• 89% of respondents felt the Challenge had made them read different books they would not normally have chosen.
• 71% of respondents completed last year’s Challenge.
• 83% of respondents filled in the comments diary.
