Portering
Portering Services are part of the Estates and Facilities Division and have offices at both Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital.
The Trustwide Portering Service operates a 24 hour, seven-day-a-week service. Our core functions are the transportation of patients and goods around our hospitals.
Services Provided
The vast majority of our work is patient related (both inpatients and outpatients). However our porters also play a crucial role in other services, acting as the Ground Safety Team for the Air Ambulance and being part of the Fire Team, with it’s primary role being one of access control.
The Portering Service has departmental standards which help us categorise and prioritise our workload and determine our response to the many and diverse aspects of the job that we do. These are:
e.g. Fire/Air Ambulance/Cardiac Arrest/Medical Emergency/Security Issues
- Two - To commence the task within 15 minutes
e.g. Chair/bed/stretcher patient movements
- Three - To commence the task within two hours
e.g. Health Records/Pharmacy/Pathology Specimen/Linen/Waste/Medical Equipment
- Four - To commence the task within 168 hours (one week)
e.g. office moves
If a request is urgent on clinical grounds then this must be conveyed to the Helpdesk Operator/Porter at the time of request.
