Patient & Public Involvement (PPI)

Involvement of patients and the public can be extremely beneficial and can impact in many ways upon the research process.  It can; improve recruitment, result in more patient focused outcomes and help with the dissemination of research results.

Patient and Public Involvement can include:

  • Inform the design of the research study
  • Developement of the grant proposal
  • Identifying and prioritising research topics via user groups / service users
  • Continued involvement through monitoring and evaluation
  • Increase the likelihood that results of research are implemented
  • Advise on different avenues for disseminating results
  • Assist the research team in developing themes from data
