Band 5 Role Transition Programme
The Band 5 Transition Programme is available to all newly qualified healthcare practitioners within the Trust, all those returning to practice and any overseas nurses.
New procedure for staff enrolment onto the Band 5 Transition Programme
The Band 5 Transition Programme is a mandatory year long series of study days for all newly qualified healthcare practitioners joining the Trust. The programme consists of one study day a month over the course of the year and staff will also attend additional clinical skills training in the following areas: IV Calculations, IV Study Day, Cannulation, Venepuncture and Cathererisation.
In order to enrol a member of staff onto the next Band 5 Transition Programme, please fill in the online form which will be sent to Nick Oxlade, Redwood Education Centre. Ward Managers and the newly qualified practitioner will then receive a confirmation letter when enrolment is complete.
Once we have the details of the member of staff, he or she will receive a letter in the internal post welcoming them onto the programme. A copy of this will also be sent to the Ward Manager. It is the joint responsibility of the Ward Manager along with the member of staff, to ensure that they are given the time to attend these mandatory sessions.
The Band 5 Role Transition programme has been designed to offer newly qualified staff the chance to continue their professional development throuigh their first year of practice. It has been mapped against the nationwide scheme of Flying Start, England. Staff will spend the morning receiving a face to face teaching session on one of the topics of Flying Start, then have the afternoon to complete the E-learning associated with the programme. This blended learning approach to education has been embraced in many areas of nursing and appears to have been positiveily reviewed. It also results in excellent quality portfolios at the end of the programme. The work produced from this preceptorship programme can be used as part of a proffessional portfolio that will be carred with the individual throughout his or her career. Many members of staff choose to present their portfolios at interview as a demonstration of their development since their registration.
